Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) also known as physiatry or rehabilitation medicine, is a branch of medicine that aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities. The Physicians at the Spine Institute of Arizona believe in managing each individual’s spine condition in the most conservative manner available in order to maintain and restore maximum movement and function throughout life. Our team of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians includes Allan Rowley, M.D. and Vibhooti Dave, D.O. They specialize in restoring optimal function to people with injuries to the muscles, bones, tissues, and nervous system. Common conditions that are treated are musculoskeletal pain syndromes such as low back pain, neck pain and sciatica.
Rehabilitation physicians use diagnostic tools such as medical histories, physical examination and imaging studies with the addition of special techniques in electrodiagnostic medicine to help localize the exact cause of pain, weakness and numbness.
Spine Institute of Arizona’s Allan Rowley, M.D. and Vibhooti Dave, D.O. focus on treatments that enhance the patient’s overall performance; the focus is not on one part of the body but instead on the development of a comprehensive program taking into account medical, social, emotional and vocational issues that result after an injury or disease process. The goal of a rehabilitation physician is to decrease pain and enhance performance without surgery using techniques such as physical and occupational therapy, medications and injections.
